Client education program: Workers’ compensation
A comprehensive webinar-based educational program offered to current clients covering a variety of topics within the workers’ compensation industry.
2021 series
Our workers’ compensation educational series is designed to familiarize yourself with Ohio’s workers’ compensation system and show you how to maximize your program. In addition to the sessions listed, special webinars may also be scheduled throughout 2021 on unique topics. All webinar times listed are EST/EDT and are approximately 60 minutes in length. Please make sure we have your email address on file so you do not miss your opportunity to attend. Please note: Our client education program is intended as an educational opportunity for clients of Sedgwick only unless otherwise communicated during the promotion, registration or confirmation of each topic. Recorded webinars do not qualify for Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) training requirements. All sessions have been certified by the BWC for 1-hour of the 2-hour safety training requirement for group and group retrospective-rated employers. To be eligible, the attendee must remain in the webinar for at least 75% of the total time.
Introduction to workers’ compensation
This session is designed for both private and public (cities, villages, counties, townships, schools, etc.) employers to provide a summary of the fundamental principles of Ohio’s workers’ compensation system, including the roles and responsibilities of the resources available to you: the BWC, Industrial Commission (IC), Third Party Administrator (TPA) and Managed Care Organization (MCO).

Understanding your rate calculation and the factors that drive your cost
With a focus on what factors drive your premiums, this session will drill down to show how the BWC calculates an employer’s premium rate and explain the individual steps that go into determining the experience modifier. We will show how an individual claim can impact the rate calculation and touch on some claims management strategies that can be employed to favorably impact the calculation.

BWC Destination Excellence program options
The Ohio BWC's Destination Excellence is a portfolio of programs that encourages employers to increase worker safety and reduce costs. The options include Administrative rebates, Safety Council rebates, an Industry Specific bonus, a Drug-Free Safety incentive and a Transitional Work Grant and bonus. This session will define the individual programs, outline the available discounts/rebates associated with each and navigate the requirements, as well as the compatibility and deadlines.

Seven steps to a successful workers’ compensation program
It is important to prioritize workplace safety and protocols in order to protect your employees and your financial assets no matter the type or size of employer. In this session we will provide some proven approaches to help your company develop a culture where all members of the organization take an active part in the workers’ compensation program.

Reducing your claims costs
Premium is a function of payroll, industry and claims costs. The only thing that you can actively control is the claims you have and the way you manage them. This session will explore cost containment methods for managing disability, return to work issues and ways to lower costs on your premium such as handicap reduction and claim settlement. We will also discuss the biggest cost saver of all: prevention.
