A comprehensive webinar-based educational program offered to current clients covering a variety of topics within the workers’ compensation industry.

2023 series

Our workers’ compensation educational series is designed to familiarize yourself with Ohio’s workers’ compensation system and show you how to maximize your program. In addition to the sessions listed, special webinars may also be scheduled throughout 2023 on unique topics. All webinar times listed are EST/EDT and are approximately 60 minutes in length. Please note: Our client education program is intended as an educational opportunity for clients of Sedgwick only unless otherwise communicated during the promotion, registration or confirmation of each topic.  All sessions have been certified by the BWC for 1-hour of the 2-hour safety training requirement for group and group retrospective-rated employers. 

Introduction to Ohio workers’ compensation

This session is designed for both private and public (cities, villages, counties, townships, schools, etc.) employers to provide a complete summary of the fundamental principles of Ohio’s workers’ compensation system. It is especially beneficial to those new to the system as it provides an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the resources available to you: the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC), Industrial Commission (IC), Third Party Administrator (TPA) and Managed Care Organization (MCO).

Understanding your rate calculation (public and private)

This session explores all of the new methodologies being introduced by the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) with a focus on what factors drive your premiums. We will drill down to show how the BWC calculates an employer’s premium rate and explain the individual steps that go into determining the experience modifier. We will show how an individual claim can impact the rate calculation and touch on some claims management strategies that can be employed to favorably impact the calculation.

Destination Excellence (public and private)

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Destination Excellence is a portfolio of programs that encourages employers to increase worker safety and reduce costs. The options include Administrative rebates, Safety Council rebates, an Industry Specific bonus, a Drug-Free Safety incentive and a Transitional Work Grant and bonus. This session will define the individual programs, outline the available discounts/rebates associated with each and navigate the requirements, as well as deadlines and compatibility with other BWC programs.

Seven steps to a successful workers’ compensation program

It is important to prioritize workplace safety and protocols in order to protect your employees and your financial assets. In this session we will provide some proven approaches to help your company develop a culture of safety where all members of the organization take an active part in the workers’ compensation program.

Return to work strategies

Lost time claims are the most expensive claims and statistics show that the longer your injured employee is away from work, the less likely it is that they will return in any capacity. We will identify the resources available to assist you in returning your injured employees to restricted and full duty, best practices for making an offer of transitional work, the Transitional Work Grant and Bonus Program, salary continuation and vocational rehabilitation.

Workers' comp strategies for small businesses

This session is designed for the smaller employer and will offer practical advice on how to manage workers’ compensation in your environment. We will identify the many resources you have available to assist you with your program. We will highlight key dates and actions that are required by the BWC and provide you with an understanding of the system that will allow you to make the best decisions for your small business.
