Marker

Marker’s rich history began in 1956, when Robert Thomas and his father-in-law, Herbert Hall, formed a new business under the name Robert Thomas Construction Company. The company primarily built automotive service/gas stations and financial institutions. In 1965, Harold Marker formed a partnership with Mr. Thomas, and the firm was renamed Thomas & Marker Construction Co., and they focused on developing their commercial construction portfolio. Randy Marker and Pat Ellis led the expansion in the 1990s and 2000s. It was a time of steady and consistent growth as they expanded into the higher education, healthcare, zoological, senior living, and municipal markets. In January 2020, the company was renamed Marker, Inc., to reflect the transition into the next generation of leadership.

At Marker, safety is their highest priority. They understand the organization and attention required to provide a safe environment for all affected by their projects. Marker's Health and Safety Program includes initiatives and procedures that provide the highest level of workplace safety. Evidence of this is demonstrated by our continued involvement in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), which they have participated in since 2008. Marker was the third mobile workforce in the United States to qualify for this coveted designation. Marker’s EMR has been well below industry standard for the last six years with a steady reduction. Marie Nicol, Safety Manager, states that the company and its associates act quickly when injuries occur. The safety team is made aware of any incident within 30 minutes to address injuries to ensure the associate is quickly supported. They also work closely with the associate and the doctor, which is essential in return-to-work practice.

The safety team timely investigates all accidents and near-misses to determine the root cause. The team shares incident reports with all associates following each investigation to make improvements and prevent injury. Marker sets a goal to have all field associates complete an OSHA 30-hour training after six months of employment. They also recognize Total Human Health. Marker recognizes that mental and emotional health is equally important as physical health and safety. They implement training and resources to support a holistic approach to health and safety. Lastly, Marker implements a Safety and Recognition Program to recognize team members who go above and beyond but who also report hazards, near-miss incidents, and accidents.

Marker’s Health and Safety Program includes initiatives and procedures that provide the highest workplace safety.

Sedgwick is honored to partner with Marker and we look forward to a continued relationship and ongoing advancements to an injury-free work environment.
